Safdarjung doctor molested by office assistant

A 24-year-old female doctor in the gynaecology department of Safdarjung Hospital was allegedly molested by an office assistant, a police source said on Sunday. The incident took place on Friday when Abhay, an office assistant, came to the doctor’s chamber at about 1.30 am to serve her tea and started touching her indecently. She managed to push Abhay aside and ran out of the chamber to complain to the senior authorities, the source added.

When the doctor, whose name cannot be disclosed, was returning to her chamber after attending to a patient, Abhay noticed her and immediately poured tea in a cup and silently started following her.

“When the doctor looked back at Abhay, he told her that he had brought tea for her so that she does not have any apprehensions about his intention. As soon as the doctor opened her chamber door and went inside, Abhay also slipped inside the room and quickly closed the door behind him,” said the source.

As there were no one else present outside the chamber, Abhay took the opportunity and before the doctor could even understand, he allegedly pounced on her from behind and started forcing himself on her.

“He then started touching her all over her body indecently and did not let her go as the doctor desperately tried to free herself. After five minutes, the doctor somehow managed to push Abhay aside and ran outside to complain to the senior authorities. Meanwhile, Abhay ran away from the hospital,” said the police source.

A senior police official said, “We have received a complaint regarding the matter from the hospital authorities and will arrest the accused very soon.”

The hospital officials said Abhay had been suspended by the medical superintendent and added he is known for attacking/molesting women. “Six months back, Abhay had molested a nurse in the hospital premises, but when she complained to the authorities, he pleaded for forgiveness and the matter was resolved and the police was not informed,” said a source in the Safdarjung Hospital.
