Olivier dad arrives to collect body

Edmon Ketanda, father of Olivier Masonda Ketanda, the Congolese national who was killed in a brawl in Vasant Kunj on May 20, arrived in the city on Monday.

Edmon Ketanda, father of Olivier Masonda Ketanda, the Congolese national who was killed in a brawl in Vasant Kunj on May 20, arrived in the city on Monday. He was received at the IGI Airport by officials of external affairs ministry and taken to the Embassy of Congo in Safdurjung Enclave.

“Officials at the Embassy of DR Congo briefed Olivier’s uncle about the situation. He was informed that to transport Olivier’s body to Congo, it needed to be embalmed. And the process of embalming has already been done in AIIMS. The body will transported to Congo as soon as possible,” said an official in MEA.

He added that MEA officials are constantly in touch with the deceased’s family members. The Government of India will bear all expenses related to dispatch of mortal remains of Olivier to Congo.

The Delhi police on Monday appointed joint commissioner of police (Southeastern Range) R.P. Upadhyay as the nodal officer for attending issues concerning Africans living in the city after a string of attacks on Africans. Mr Upadhyay has been entru-sted with attending to and addressing issues concerning Africans living in Delhi, a senior officer said.

The Delhi police will also soon launch a helpine exclusively for lodging of complaints in connection with such incidents. City police commissioner Alok Kumar Verma met a delegation of Africans living in the city and assured them of prompt redressal of their grievances. Mr Verma also apprised them of various steps being taken by the police for ensuring their safety and security.
