The crime branch of Delhi police has arrested a man for abducting a businessman and mercilessly thrashing him for repayment of Rs 50 lakh loan by asking for Rs 1 crore or transfer his property in his name, the police said on Friday

Jag Pravesh, alias Tony Dagar, who doubled as a body builder was arrested by a crime branch team near Fun Cinema in Moti Nagar in a case registered on a complaint of the businessman Punit Arora on May 25, said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner (crime) of police.

Punit told police that he had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from Tony after suffering huge losses in betting and had been forced to pay him a monthly interest of 10 per cent. Tony allegedly started putting pressure on Punit to pay his outstanding amount or transfer his shop to him.

On the evening of March 10, Tony called the complainant at a shop in K.D. Block of Ashok Vihar Phase-I, where his musclemen, asked him to pay Rs 1 crore as outstanding dues and to sell or transfer his shop in the name of Pulkit Kundra who was present there, said the officer.

When Punit refused, he was mercilessly beaten with belts and baseball bats. He was robbed of Rs 10,000-12,000 he was carrying and his SUV was also taken away by the accused after dumping him near his house in Shalimar Bagh, he said. A trap was laid on the basis of an information that Dagar will come to Moti Nagar on May 25 and he was arrested.

During interrogation, Tony admitted to have given loans to the tune of Rs 3 crore to several persons and charged high rate of interest. The police identified several areas and markets in the city where such notorious loan sharks are operating, Mr Yadav said.

“The Delhi police will crackdown on such activities and private financiers who breed criminality. The victims of such loan sharks need to come forward and report them to local police station,” added the officer.
