In a shocking incident, the body of a five month foetus of a boy was found in a ladies toilet inside Rao Tula Ram Memorial hospital at Southwest Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan area on Saturday morning.

Senior police officials said that they have sent the foetus for post-mortem and have registered a case against unknown person under Section 316 (Causing death of unborn child by act amounting to culpable homicide) of the IPC.

According to the police, they received a call at around 11 am from the hospital authorities that a foetus was found dumped in the ladies washroom in the government hospital at Jaffarpur Kalan. A team of police rushed to the spot and picked up the body.

Senior police officers close to the investigation said that in the preliminary investigation, it appears that it was a five-month-old baby boy. “However, we have sent the body of the boy for relevant medical tests and post-mortem to establish how the body was found in the hospital premises,” the police said.

A senior police official said, “We are questioning employees and staff of the hospital to ascertain if they saw anyone leaving behind the foetus. We are also scanning the CCTV footage of all the cameras installed in the hospital premises and near the bus stops to identify who left the unborn child behind. Sources, meanwhile, said that no one in the hospital saw anything so it is difficult to establish how the unborn child was left behind.”
