Delhi Government inks pact with German state on higher education

The Delhi government and the German Federal Free State of Thuringia on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for increasing cooperation in higher education.

The Delhi government and the German Federal Free State of Thuringia on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for increasing cooperation in higher education.

With the signing the MoU, both sides have committed to promote and encourage amongst the universities, centres of higher education, and research institutions in their respective states; exchange of faculty members, exchange of academic publications and information and development of collaborative research.

The MoU has been signed recognising the need for and benefits of increased cooperation and communication within the international community of universities, centres of higher education and research institutions, the government said. On behalf of the Delhi government, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and on behalf of the Federal Free State of Thuringia, Georg Maier, state secretary, Federal Free State of Thuringia signed the MoU at the Delhi Secretariat.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Mr Maier said that India is the fastest growing economy and needs skilled man power and, therefore, they are happy to cooperate with the Delhi government in education sector.

The deputy CM said that their cooperation will help in introduction of dual system of education in Delhi. The Delhi government plans to set up an institution on the lines of the University of Applied Sciences as in Finland and Germany.
