A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s former principal secretary Rajendra Kumar, who is facing prosecution in connection with a corruption case along with four others.

Special CBI judge Arvind Kumar, while granting relief to Mr Kumar, asked him to furnish a bail bond of `1 lakh with a surety of like amount.

“No purpose would be served by keeping him in jail as the case is based on documentary evidence,” the court noted in its order.

The court has also warned Mr Kumar not to contact any prosecution witnesses and not to tamper with any evidence or influence the ongoing probe. On July 4, the CBI arrested Mr Kumar along with four others for allegedly showing undue favours to a private company in award of government contracts worth over `50 crore. Besides Kumar, CBI has arrested Tarun Sharma, a deputy secretary in Mr Kejriwal’s office; Ashok Kumar, a former Delhi government employee considered a close aide of Mr Kumar; and owners of the controversial private firm Endeavour Systems Pvt. Ltd. Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Gupta. The other accused have also moved bail applications in the court.
