Triumph to launch the Street Triple RS in India by mid-2017

After introducing the Bonneville range of motorcycles in 2016, Triumph might introduce the Street Triple range in the country this year. The Triumph Street Triple range has been in production for nearly a decade and recently it has been revamped. The new 2017 line-up features mechanical upgrades, cosmetic changes and new electronic equipment. It is one of the most popular motorcycles from Triumph and has been sold more than 50,000 units worldwide.

We were invited to test ride the new 2017 Triumph Street Triple RS in Barcelona and during an interaction with company officials we were told that the Street Triple S will be launched by June or July this year. The 2017 Triumph Street Triple range consists of three variants - the Street Triple S, Street Triple R and Street Triple RS. Triumph will first launch the Street Triple S, while the other two bikes are expected to land in India by late 2017.

The 2017 Triumph Street Triple S will be assembled in India and is expected to be priced around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9 lakh ex-showroom. You will remember that the previous generation Street Triple was detuned for the Indian market and it produced 79PS as opposed to the 106PS on the international-spec bike. That won’t be the case with the 2017 Street Triple range as Triumph plans to get the full-power version to India. However, we will have to wait till the launch to see if this plan holds up. 

The new bike is powered by a 765cc, triple-cylinder engine that delivers 113PS in stock 'S' trim, 118PS in the R variant, while the top-spec RS gets 123PS. Talking about electronics, the Street Triple S features ride-by-wire, two ride modes, twin traction control settings and ABS. The Triumph Street Triple S will compete against the soon to be launched Kawasaki Z900 in our two-wheeler market.
