: GSM operator Aircel would set up more base transmitting stations (BTS) both in Kolkata and Rest of Bengal circles to boost infrastructure network with a view to minimise call drops, a top company official said on Monday.

"We are keen to augment the number of BTSes in both the circles to minimise call drops," Aircel regional business head (east) Virad Kaul told reporters here.

He said nearly 3,100 and 2,300 BTSes would be operational in RoB (Rest of Bengal) and Kolkata circles, respectively after additions to the existing infrastructure by December this year.

Kaul said Aircel would also roll out 4G services in RoB by December. He declined to comment about Kolkata circle where it does not hold 4G spectrums.

Vodafone would launch the services from December in the circle along with Airtel, which is already offering it. Data traffic contributed 15 per cent to Aircel's overall revenue, which is projected to go up to 20 per cent in the next few years.

Growth in data traffic witnessed 300 per cent rise in Kolkata and 250 per cent in RoB circles, he said. Meanwhile, Aircel today launched a new data plan to get more traffic in its fold.
