Shirish Kunder collaborates with Rick again

Shirish Kunder, who had last directed Joker in 2012, has very recently made a short film titled Kriti. It’s a dark and intense and different from what Shirish has previously done. The film stars Manoj Bajpai and Radhika Apte and is actually a prelude to his feature film. Interestingly, Shirish has not repeated any of his crewmembers from Joker, except his stylist Rick Roy.

The director says, “Except Rick, it’s my first time with the rest of my crew and it was a brilliant experience. A lot of people have worked for free because it’s a short film and they have put in their best. Last time that was not the case.” Shirish recalls being stood up by a big designer during Joker. That is when Rick stepped in, despite having known Shirish for a very short time. “I gave him a call then and it was his first independent break. That is a special connection,” he adds.

The short film broke the pattern for Rick as he has only done glamorous styling in the past. “We started discussing and he went about it very intelligently. The result is brilliant.”
