The project cost of the ambitious 800-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur Super Expressway is expected to go up by 50 per cent (at least) from its current estimated cost of Rs 30,000 crore. According to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) officials, the body is currently in the process of preparing detailed project report (DPR) and there will be escalation in cost of the project once the DPR is prepared.
The MSRDC, the implementing agency of the project, is currently exploring options by holding talks with various international financial agencies to be roped in for funding the Super Expressway.
“The cost of Rs 30,000 crore is an estimated cost and it will vary once we have the proper roadmap in terms of the DPR in our hand. There are chances the cost may increase, but that will not have negative repercussions on the project. We were approached by at least ten international funding agency for the project,” said Radheshyam Mopalwar, managing director, MSRDC.
The international agencies that have approached MSRDC for funding include the Deutsche Bank, a German banking institution; Dubai International Bank and Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
