Cops compete to fill up maximum number of forms
The Navi Mumbai police is set to compete with each other in order to fill up the maximum number of tenant registration forms.

The Navi Mumbai police is set to compete with each other in order to fill up the maximum number of tenant registration forms. As anti-terrorism week has begun, the police seeks to make people aware and get details of every person who is living as a tenant in Navi Mumbai. Many Nigerians and people from different parts of the state live in the area.
According to officials, getting details of the tenants will enable the police to control crime in the area and trace the culprits faster. As tenants are considered as a floating population, gathering information on them would help in better functioning, said the police.
The idea was mooted by Navi Mumbai DCP zone one Shahaji Umap. Commenting on the matter, he said, “The population of Navi Mumbai is now more than 12 lakh, but in Navi Mumbai more than 5 lakh people are outsiders, who have settled in the twin township for their jobs. They are staying in rented houses across the 23 police chowkey areas. In most of the previous bomb blast cases in Maharashtra the accused were staying in the city on rent.”
He further added, “In Navi Mumbai, in more than 70 per cent cases our police arrested outsiders for their involvement, so it is important to keep proper records of the tenants as it helps to trace them if they flee after committing crime.”
The competition has started on February 22 and at the end of week, the officer with the maximum number of tenant forms will be felicitated.
