Kolkata: Heavyweight Trinamul Congress minister and Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee’s wife Ratna Chatterjee was arrested by the police on Friday following his complaint after she sat on demonstration in front of a housing apartment at Golpark in south Kolkata where he has been staying for the past couple of months after leaving his residence in Parnashree as his battle for separation with her has witnessed twists and turns only becoming ugly.

Ms Chatterjee was however granted bail later since the charges were bailable.

Around Thursday midnight Ms Chatterjee went to the apartment and launched a sit-in demonstration to demand her husband’s signature which she claimed was necessary for their daughter’s visa application for studying abroad.

She alleged that she tried to get it signed by Mr Chatterjee many times in the past 15 days but she was denied.

Ms Chatterjee said, “My daughter is Class 9 student at Heritage School. She got a opportunity to travel in Germany courtsey to a study project she had submitted at her school. The school authorities completed the formalities of form fill-up. When I went to apply for her visa and contacted her father, he told me that he would sign her visa application provided his present address is shown at Southern Avenue to make it look like we stay at different locations during the course of separation process.”

She added, “He fears that if he signs the application papers, his signature may be shown to the court as if we are staying separated. I understand that he has no wish to stay with me. But what offence has our daughter committed?”
