Teen boy drowns in Maidan pond

Saad went to the pond but lost balance soon and he got drowned. His brother alerted passers-by. The police was informed.

Kolkata: A teenaged boy died after he drowned in a pond in Maidan while trying to collect the football on Sunday morning.

The deceased, Saad Khan, was a resident of Park Street. He appeared at the Madhyamik Examination this year. Alongwith his brother Saad used to go to play football the ground near the Territorial Army Officers Institute on the Maidan.

On Saturday late afternoon when they were playing the ball fell into the pond beside the ground. They, however, could not pick the ball due to darkness since it was almost evening.

At around 6.30 am on Sunday the two brothers came to the pond to collect the ball.

Saad went to the pond but lost balance soon and he got drowned. His brother alerted passers-by. The police was informed.

Later the divers of the city police recovered the body which was sent for post-mortem at SSKM Hospital.
