Elderly couple found dead in hotel

The couple was lying in unconscious state on the bed while everything looked intact in the room.

Kolkata: A septugenarian couple from Charu Market area in south Kolkata was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a guesthouse in Dakshineshwar on Saturday morning. The deceased were Subrata Niyogi (78) and his wife Kankan (70) from Rajendra Lal Ganguly Lane. They had checked into Annapurna Guest House on T.N. Biswas Road near Dakshineswar Kali Temple on Friday evening. 

According to the guest house owner, the couple told him that they would offer a puja at the temple early on Saturday. Later they had dinner at a nearby hotel before going to sleep in their room on the ground floor. Early on Saturday when a staff of the guest house knocked the door of the couple’s room repeatedly to wake up them for their temple visit, he got no response. Later the police was informed. 

Cops of the Belghoria police station broke open the door. The couple was lying in unconscious state on the bed while everything looked intact in the room. The couple was declared brought dead at Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital. Examining the identity documents of the couple the police learnt of the address. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. The police suspect that it was a suicide pact.
