New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested two persons, including a loader working at IGI Airport, for allegedly stealing 40 iPhones worth Rs 28 lakh.

The police has recovered 28 stolen iPhone 7 worth Rs 19.5 lakh, said a crime branch official. The Apple phones scheduled for launch in India on April 14 arrived at the cargo complex of IGI Airport on April 12. Later that day, they went missing from the import cargo, he said. On the basis of a tip-off, the two accused — Preetam Nishad and Anurag Singh — were arrested on Tuesday.

Preetam used to work as a loader at the IGI Airport cargo complex with Kishan Pal Transport Service. He met Anurag Singh, who was also working there as a loader. A few months back, Preetam lost his job, but he still had the ID card. The duo hatched a plan to steal the items that arrive in cargo from the airport cargo complex.

They sold the phones by telling buyers that they have been purchased from the auction of customs department, he said.
