New Delhi: It was an instinctive decision for Shalini — ‘Delhi’s Dabangg’ girl — who in a fraction of seconds turned the tables on her mugger last Saturday. A bike-borne mugger, who was trying to speed away after snatching her purse, had to taste dust when in a hot pursuit, the gutsy girl caught hold of his bike’s tail end and didn’t let go off him. She got dragged for over few metres, sustained bruises on her knees and elbows but valour triumphed when Shalini successfully managed to unbalance the miscreant who fell on the ground and was nabbed by the public.

Shalini was not alone to display courage on Saturday. Earlier that same day, another fiercely courageous woman, Kanika, who is a resident of Shyam Nagar, caught hold of her fleeing snatcher near Subhash Nagar Metro station.

What came as a surprise for the cops was that the two youth, who were nabbed in separate incidents and caught by two different women, were partners in crime and were on a snatching spree. However, they ran out of luck when the two had a face-off with gutsy women, which landed the duo in prison.

With the arrest of the two, the Delhi police cracked five such cases of snatching in the area and recovered mobile phone, purse, and stolen motorcycle.

According to the police, the two notorious offenders are identified as Sagar Prasad (22) and Jagdip Singh (22). Both the arrested have committed snatching in similar fashion in West Delhi and have cases registered against them in police stations like Hari Nagar, Tilak Nagar, and Rajouri Garden etc.

The police said that on February 25, Shalini, a resident of Tilak Nagar, was on her way to DTC Depot in Hari Nagar when the incident took place. As she reached the CRPF Camp at Mahavir Nagar, a bike-borne youth came and snatched her purse. Displaying exemplary courage and presence of mind, Shalini swung into action and fearlessly grabbed the bike’s tail end to stop her mugger.

During interrogation, accused Sagar disclosed that he, along with his associate Jagdeep, committed a series of snatching in the morning. First of all, they snatched a mobile phone from a lady in Rajouri Garden. Thereafter, they attempted to snatch Kanika’s purse at Subhash Nagar Metro Station where his associate was caught along with the motorcycle. But he had managed to escape and did not stop there. He also told the police that he then stole a motorcycle from Hari Nagar to commit another snatching and ran out of luck when Shalini gave him a hard time and successfully nabbed him with the help of the public.

The police said that the brave women will be rewarded suitably.
