It is quite surprising that some people come in our lives for a brief period of time and yet leave a long-lasting impression. In my life, I have three such friends — Emir, Navin and Daniel and all three of them are from very different cultural backgrounds.

In New Zealand, high school is from 9th grade till 13th grade and that phase is also the beginning of your teenage years. Growing up in a foreign country was not easy for me. I had to face discrimination, got bullied and also found it hard to fit in. The trio, however, always stood by me through thick and thin. When you have true friends, life becomes easier and you look forward to each day ahead. It’s important to build a support system with a few trusted people and those three  were mine.
