A video posted on the social media, which shows a young woman in Bijnore district in Uttar Pradesh brutally beating her elderly mother-in-law, has gone viral on the Internet.

The video has been posted by social activist Kundan Srivastava on Facebook with an appeal to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to take action against the woman named Sangeeta Jain. The Bijnore police has taken Sangeeta into custody under Section 307 of the IPC. Sangeeta told local reporters that the video had been made by her husband to frame her.

In the video that is just about a minute long, Sangeeta is seen strangulating her mother-in-law, aged around 70 years, with her hands and then with a cloth. She even tries to pull the ailing old woman, Rajrani Jain, down from her bed and uses a stone to hit her on the head. Sangeeta is also seen trying to give her electric shock with a water heating rod.

In his written post, Mr Srivastava has said that the video was recorded on January 5 through a CCTV camera that had been installed in the room. He said that the family had been bearing the brunt of Sangeeta’s violent streak since the past several months but the police refused to take action against her.

“I suggested that they should install a CCTV camera so that they can get proof of her behaviour,” he said. Sangeeta is married to Sandeep, Rajrani’s son, and their divorce case is pending in the court.

The social activist has described Sangeeta as a “cruel woman” who has filed false cases of dowry harassment and marital rape against her husband.
