Taking potshots at the bitter feud within the Samajwadi Party, BJP president Amit Shah advised the top brass to “first control the infighting” before trying to control the law and order situation in the state.

“The government has failed to control the law and order situation but how will those who cannot control their own family can even be expected to control the state ” Mr Shah said in Kanpur on Friday. “UP is very big, Akhilesh bhaiyya... first of all, control your family and only then will peace return to the state,” he remarked.

At a function to mark the conclusion of the 174-day-long Dhamma Chetna Yatra, Mr Shah also accused Mayawati of “insulting” Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar by joining hands with the Congress.

“Mayawati became the CM (in 2007) with the support of dalits and the blessings of Buddhist monks but she did nothing for the welfare of dalits while being in power,” he said.

Mr Shah asked Ms Mayawati to disclose her assets in 2006 when Mr Kanshi Ram passed away and her assets in the present day.
