Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati lashed out at BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday and said that the BJP was getting “nervous” ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati lashed out at BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday and said that the BJP was getting “nervous” ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

“The BJP is showing signs of nervousness. If the party really feels that there has been a marked deterioration in the law and order situation in the state, what is stopping the Centre from imposing President’s Rule here ” she asked.

She said that the BJP had failed to fulfil its constitutional obligations in Uttar Pradesh.

“What does one say when the BJP president talks about the lawlessness prevailing here but does not ask his government to take action ” she said.

Ms Mayawati was apparently responding to Mr Amit Shah’s remark in which he said that by the time elections are held in UP, the BSP president would be the lone member of her party.

The BSP president also accused the BJP of dabbling in all sort of “dirty designs” and playing politics in the name of Ram Mandir to return to power in the state.

“The BJP is preparing to use the Ram temple issue once again to polarise voters on the eve of Assembly elections. The party has always used religion to further its political interests. Party leaders have already started issuing statements on temple construction as part of the strategy,” she stated. Ms Mayawati also reiterated that leaders walking in and out of her party would not impact her vote base.

“We have faced these situations in the past but the BSP has always survived and it will do the same again,” she said.
