Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who stirred up a storm last week when he said he will eat beef if he wants to and nobody could stop an Indian from eating what he wanted to, has been threatened

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who stirred up a storm last week when he said he will eat beef if he wants to and nobody could stop an Indian from eating what he wanted to, has been threatened with beheading if he does.

The threat which didn’t name the CM directly, came from former Shivamogga city municipal president and district BJP general secretary S.N. Channabasappa. He has been charged under Sections 506, 153 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code and was arrested by Doddapete police in Shivamogga on Tuesday. The District Congress Committee headed by R. Prasanna Kumar met Shivamogga SP Ravi D. Channannavar and lodged a complaint against Mr Channabasappa in the morning subsequent to which he was arrested.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), “on November 2 during the BJP protest at Gopi Circle, Mr Channabasappa made the threat and used unruly words against chief minister Siddaramaiah saying if he had guts, let him come to Gopi Circle and eat cow meat, we will then behead him”. The FIR said the provocative statement had indirectly created a fearful atmosphere.

According to the SP, Mr Channabasappa was being interrogated at Doddapete police station. He is likely to be produced before the court on Wednesday morning.

Leader of Opposition in the Council K.S. Eshwarappa feigned ignorance saying, “I do not have full details. I will react after checking the statement.” He gave the CM time till Wednesday to apologise for his statement on eating beef failing which BJP leaders will meet on November 5 and start a legal battle.
