A review meeting of the BJP-ruled states has been called by party president Amit Shah on August 27, where issues related to organisation and implementation of Central government schemes are likely to be taken up. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend this meeting.

Sources said party leadership could also seek reports from chief ministers on the grievances of leaders, including MPs of respective states, on various issues.

Ahead of this meeting, core groups of party’s state units are meeting on August 23 with Mr Shah. The BJP president will review the implementation of various suggestions that the party leadership had taken during the party’s national executive meetings in Bengaluru and Allahabad.

Expanding its base in states where the BJP has been traditionally weak and making its presence felt till the booth level were among the key issues that the party leadership had stressed in these national executive meetings.

Sources said the Good and Services Tax (GST) Bill is not the reason for these meetings as it is essentially a matter between the Centre and states and that organisational matters will be on top of Mr Shah’s agenda, though the issue may figure in the deliberations.
