‘Dead’ man in Madhya Pradesh comes alive in his pyre

Bhopal: A man in a Madhya Pradesh village on Thursday gave his relations, who carried him to the local cremation ground to perform his last rites believing him dead, shock of their life when he “got up” from his pyre.

Official reports reaching here said Sunil Maravi (42), resident of Karanjia village in Shahdol district, was admitted in the district hospital in Dindori in MP a couple of days ago when he started vomiting blood. Doctors, however, referred to him to the Jabalpur medical college hospital when his condition worsened.

His family members, however, brought him back home when he refused to be moved to Jabalpur medical college hospital. He succumbed to his illness late on Wednesday night. His “body” was carried to the village cremation ground by the villagers to perform his funeral rites early on Thursday morning.

“As we were putting his body on his pyre, Sunil started vomiting blood. Later, we checked his pulse and heart beats which we found functioning. We immediately called an ambulance to carry him to the local hospital,” Vijay Maravi who was present in the cremation ground, told the media.

According to him, Sunil was admitted in the Karanjia community health Centre where doctors declared him brought dead.

“He was already dead when he was brought to the hospital”, local block medical officer Suraj Singh Udde said. Later, his body was taken again to the cremation ground where his last rites were conducted.
