Utkal Express derailment: Naveen, Yogi announce ex-gratia for victims

Lucknow: UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 2 lakh for the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured passengers of the Kalinga Utkal express after it derailed at Khatauli, 24 kilometres from Muzaffarnagar. 

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik sought the assisstance of railway minister Suresh Prabhu for the relief and rescue operations and announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for the injured passengers.Mr Prabhu said medical were rushed to the site. 

Eight bogies of the express derailed near Khatauli station, barely 100 kilometres from New Delhi. The train, number 18477, had left Puri and was scheduled to reach Haridwar at 9 pm, the East Coast Railway sources said. Railway officials set up helpline numbers for people inquiring about their relatives who were travelling in the train.
