he professor had claimed she knows the governor, who is the Chancellor of the university.

Chennai: Rubbishing the claims linking his name with assistant professor Nirmala Devi who allegedly tried to lure four of her girl students to do sexual favours for top officials of Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit said he had not seen her face till date. The professor had claimed she knows the governor, who is the Chancellor of the university.

In a rare press conference held at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday in the wake of the sex scandal at Madurai Kamaraj University, the governor assured the people of Tamil Nadu that stringent punishment will be given based on the report by the one member high-level committee appointed by him to inquire into the issue. The governor was flanked by University vice-chancellor P.P. Chelladurai and registrar V. Chinniah and governor secretary R. Rajagopal.

He said both the vice-chancellor and registrar are cooperating in the issue. “There was some mistake in V-Cs office as they formed the internal committee without my consultation. Now they have rectified their mistake,” he said.
