MP: Spurned by girl, youth shoots self

Bhopal: A BJP youth wing leader took out his revolver and shoot himself in the house of his girlfriend here late on Tuesday night when his lover’s father refused to give his consent for their marriage, the police said on Wednesday.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Atul Lakhande (30) shot him in the head. He was then rushed to a hospital here by his girlfriend where he was battling for his life.

“He shot himself from close range. The bullet pierced his head and damaged his brain. He is in a critical condition”, doctors treating him said.

Before going to his girlfriend’s house, he posted a poem in his Facebook account expressing his love for her.

The girl said she had decided to end their ten-year-long relationship when he failed to find a decent livelihood. But, Atul insisted on marrying her and hence he had gone to her house to plead to her father to permit them to marry.

Atul’s parents claimed that he was deeply upset after his girlfriend deserted her and desperately wanted to save their relationship. He shot himself when his girlfriend spurned his love.
