Proposal cleared, Supreme Court to get three new ASGs

New Delhi: The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal for the appointment of senior advocates Vikramjit Banerjee, Aman Lekhi and Sandeep Sethi as new additional solicitors general for the Supreme Court of India till June 30, 2020. Their appointment is a sequel to the resignation of ASGs senior advocates Neeraj K. Kaul and P.S. Patwalia last year.

The government is yet to announce the appointment of new Solicitor General after Ranjit Kumar resigned in October 2017 due to personal reasons.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet also approved the extension of four existing ASGs, Maninder Singh, P.S. Narsimha, Tushar Mehta and Pinky Anand for the Supreme Court till June 30, 2020.

At present, the top court has five ASGs, namely Maninder Singh, Tushar Mehta, Pinky Anand, P.S. Narasimha and A.N.S Nadkarni.

Mr Lekhi has been an established lawyer in the Delhi HC for almost two decades now. He is the husband of BJP Member of Parliament  Meenakshi Lekhi.
