In order to improve the ease of doing business, the state government on Saturday scrapped five permissions required for setting up hotels. The scrapped licences include permission for food registration certificate, construction of swimming pool, place of public entertainment licence A and B and presentation licence.
The approval came from the home department, giving a push to the government’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business. “The state government has succeeded in reducing permissions to half for the hotel and hospitality industry. The urban development, industries and environment departments had reduced their permissions earlier. Now, the home department has also extended its support in inviting industries to the state,” an official from the chief minister’s office said.
On the instructions of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, a meeting of the home department was conducted, which decided to reduce permissions. “The hotel and hospitality industry will not have to seek permission from the home department for five reasons, food registration certificate, construction of swimming pool, the place of public entertainment licence A and B and presentation licence,” the official said. The home department will make amendments in the Police Act 1951 to scrap the approvals.
The decision will help the hotel industry mushroom in the state. “It has also given relief to the industry and major hassles have been removed. The burden of paperwork and subsequent delay has been reduced with the decision,” the official added.
Earlier, there were 71 permissions needed to set up a hotel in the state. The government also does not have a single-window system to seek all the permissions. The industry people were sometimes harassed by red-tapism.
The BJP-led government had vowed to reduce the permissions so that more industries can come up in the state. In a period of one year, permissions have been reduced to 21 and the industries department is trying its best to reduce approvals futher, the official said.
