Mumbai: Diesel generators manufacturer Mahindra Powerol on Monday launched its higher voltage DG sets range of 400/500/625 kVA powered by Perkins 2000 series engines.

Designed at its R&D hub at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai and manufactured at its Chakan plant near Pune, this new range of generator sets will have 12.5 litre to 18 litre Perkins engines.

"Given the scale at which the infrastructure in India is growing, the demand for higher voltage generators is going to increase. So far, we have been present in the lower voltage segment. But now, as a part of our strategy to cater to the higher voltage market, we launched these 400/500/625 kVA DG sets," Mahindra & Mahindra President CPO, Powerol and Spares Business Hemant Sikka told PTI here.

He said the company recently launched its new range of 250/320 kVA DGs powered by Mahindra mPower series engines.

"With the launch of 400/500/625 kVA gensets, we now have gensets from 5kVA to 625kVA. This gives us a great opportunity to grow in new segments and offer a wide and world-class range of gensets to our customers," Sikka added.

When asked why the company chose to use Perkins engines for this higher range, Sikka said, "we also manufacture engines which we use for our other generators. But since the demand for these products is higher, we thought it would be better to partner with Perkins, which is among leaders in this space."
