This upcoming smartphone just got a whole lot more exciting.

Apple iPhone 12 will come with a host of new upgrades.
Apple iPhone 12 will come with a host of new upgrades.

2020 is expected to be a landmark year for Apple and this is because we have a lot of information already regarding the Cupertino-based tech giant’s plans. Furthermore, apart from being the best handset of 2019, the iPhone 11 Pro should be skipped for this new handset if you plan on upgrading any time now.

A report by 9to5Mac has shared some stunning new details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone and the performance of the device will be unlike we have ever seen from a smartphone in history.

As per a related report by MacWorld, the iPhone 12 will go toe-to-toe with the MacBook Pro in terms of performance and this is due to the 5nm technology that’s used with the Apple A14 chipset. This technology promises to be a generation leap that could be a game-changer for the industry.

“If we take [Apple A-Series chipmaker] TSMC at its word about the improved transistor density of the 5 nm process, we’re looking at an incredible 15 billion transistors,” explains MacWorld’s respected writer Jason Cross. “That’s more than all but the largest high-end desktop and server CPUs and GPUs. It’s huge… I wouldn’t be surprised if the Geekbench 5 multi-core score creeps up to 5,000 or so. For what it’s worth, the fastest Android phones score around 3,000 on this test, and a score of 5,000 would be similar to 6-core mainstream desktop CPUs or high-end laptop CPUs. It’s a 15-inch MacBook Pro territory.”

This only tells half the story as Apple will be also improving the memory of the iPhone 12 by 50 per cent and drastically improve the overall graphics performance.

“Barring some new performance bottleneck, I think a score over 9,500 is certainly possible. In other words, I think we can expect a 50% improvement in graphics performance for the kind of high-end graphics used in games.”

Apple’s A-series chipsets are already some of the fastest available but these improvements would put them out of sight of smartphone rivals and it could also represent the moment when Apple’s silicone could viably replace Intel’s in the MacBook range.

Apart from being improved in the chipset department, Apple will also look to majorly improve upon its Face ID tech, a segment where they are already market leaders. Barclays states that Apple will ‘refresh’ Face ID hardware after only dishing out incremental upgrades in recent years.

Additionally, Apple will also be increasing the RAM on the iPhone 12 to 6GB from 4GB as seen on the iPhone 11 Pro. They will also add a new long-range 3D camera which will add a significant push for Augmented Reality. Also, Barclays goes on to claim that Apple is strongly considering the removal of the Lightning port but this change won’t happen until 2021.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Despite the iPhone 12 sporting a similar design to the iPhone X, it will also be the first to come with 5G connectivity across all models, it will feature new 120Hz ProMotion displays and new in-display fingerprint scanners in the form of next-generation Touch ID.

Lastly, all these features will warrant just a minor price increase which makes the handsets all the more alluring.
