Mumbai: India reached a strong position on Day 3 of the first Test match between India and West Indies, after Indian captain Virat Kohli and vice captain Ajinkya Rahane put on an unbeaten 104 runs partnership to extend India’s lead to 260 after losing three early wickets with two more days to be played.  While Kohli and Rahane put on an unbeaten 104 runs stand, the duo scripted history.

The pair’s 104 runs partnership was the eight century partnership for the fourth wicket for India in the longest format. This is the most by all time Indian pair. Kohli and Rahane went past Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who had seven century partnership for the 4th wicket under their name.

Rahane and Kohli formed their ninth century stand – in terms of overall partnerships. This is the third time that an Indian pair formed a 100 and above runs stand at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium.

India were in a shaky situation after they lost three quick wickets during their route to 81 runs  after West Indies’ Roston Chase and Kemar Roach struck with the ball in the second session. However, experienced Kohli and Rahane stabilised the situation to take India to a commanding position at end of the Day’s play.
