The Congress MLAs were on Friday pulled up by the protem speaker for throwing paper pieces in the House. Protem speaker Yogesh Sagar reminded the MLAs that the country is implementing Swachh Bharat mission and it does not augur well that elected representatives litter in the legislative House.

The Congress MLAs, while protesting against the government, have been throwing pieces of paper in the House for the last four days. However, the Congress termed the protem speaker’s statement as an attempt to stifle democracy. As the House assembled in the morning at 10 am, Congress and NCP continued its protest against government and demanded announcement of loan waiver and financial package for drought-affected farmers. As the government refused to accept their demand, they staged a walkout during the question hour. After returning to the House after an hour, Congress MLAs gathered in the well and started shouting slogans against the government. Few of them tore papers and starting flinging them in the house.

Mr Sagar, who was in the chair at the time, reprimanded Congress legislators and said,

“You have the right to protest, but you cannot litter in the House. Remember we are implementing Swachh Bharat mission. If you continue throwing pieces of papers and drop litter, I will have to direct you to leave the House.”
