Mumbai: The younger brother of a woman — who allegedly killed her two children before committing suicide in Maharashtra’s Thane city — has approached the Bombay high court, alleging laxity in the police probe and demanding that the case be transferred to the crime branch.
The woman in her suicide note alleged that she was taking this extreme step due to harassment from her husband and in-laws.
The petition, filed by Kishan Anavadiya through advocate Rajeshwar Panchal, has also requested the Bombay high court to monitor the probe into this case.
Seeta Vaviya (28) allegedly strangled to death her two sons - Laksh (5) and Rudra (4) - before committing suicide at her residence in Thane on September 2.
After the incident and based on Seeta’s suicide note, her younger brother Kishan Anavadiya filed a complaint against his brother-in-law Rajesh Vaviya; Rajesh’s mother Mogiben; father Khimji; cousin brother Pravin; police sub-inspector Alkesh Kumar Chowdhary who was posted at the Rapar police station in Kutch-Bhuj district of Guajrat; and one Hathuba Sodha.
According to Kishan Anavadiya, his sister Seeta had lodged a complaint with the Rapar police station against her husband and in-laws but instead of acting on her complaint, PSI Chowdhary allegedly helped her husband and in-laws escape the clutches of the law.
In his petition before the Bombay high court, Kishan Anavadiya has said that the Kasarvadavali police station — where the FIR for abetment to suicide has been registered — is conducting an unfair, one-sided and tainted probe to save the accused and hence, the investigation be transferred either to the crime branch, CID or an independent agency like the CBI for an independent and impartial probe. A division bench of the high court will hear the petition in due course.
