Suspected Naxals who are lodged in Jagdalpur Central Jail in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bastar district on Wednesday virtually raised a banner of revolt against the authorities there, sparking security scare.

The situation was brought under control following an operation by the security forces that lasted five hours.

“We had to use mild force to bring the situation under control”, district additional superintendent of police Vijay Pandey said.

According to the police, around 150 undertrials, suspected to be Naxals, refused to return to their barracks after their baths.

Tension prevailed in the jail when the suspected Naxals threatened to not follow the orders from the authorities while demanding that provisions for their basic needs be made available to them, sources said.

“Additional forces had to be rushed to the jail to bring the situation under control”, an officer said.
