When Coronavirus struck Canada and brought life to a halt, Apoorva Beri joined other like-minded people and got down to helping the needy people in the Canadian cities. He spent days on the wheel, driving from one state to another, supplying essential items, medicines, etc, so that the people who needed those didn’t have to wait too long. During the long weeks of initial lockdown and subsequent opening up of the country, Apoorva didn’t take a single day off but, instead of being tired, he considers it “a very fulfilling experience.”

Talking about his experience helping others, Apoorva says, “I have always felt the need to contribute to society. Beyond COVID-19, I also keep looking for causes to associate with, like the welfare of children, stray animals, and the elderly. I want to build a hospital for kids, a shelter for animals, and a retirement home for the elderly. I want to give back to society and that is something that inspires me on a daily basis.”

Every morning, he gets up and gets going to work, thinking about what difference he is going to make to the world. And every night, before going to bed, Apoorva recollected whether he was able to make a difference to someone’s life that day. It is this thought that keeps him motivated as well as makes him a constant learner in life.

Apart from working tirelessly through the pandemic, Apoorva’s vision involves pledging his organs after death and mentoring youngsters. He takes out time every week to realize a part of his ultimate goal, which is to create a Foundation that would espouse public welfare causes. This ‘small empire’ of his would be run by an efficient team, which would work mainly on causes related to animals, the elderly, and children. At present, he is busy building an infrastructure that would ensure that the Foundation keeps working seamlessly through the future.

Having been a struggler during his initial days, Apoorva realizes the value of mentorship at the right juncture in life. He realizes that young men and women also need a guiding spirit in their lives. This is why he spends time with aspiring youngsters and teaches them the right values before they set out into the world to chart their own career path. He seeks out the youngsters in need of career advice and then he spends time with them, teaching them what need to know in order to have a successful career. Talking about his experience, Apoorva says, “I have always believed that the youth are the real strength of a nation and they need to be nurtured right. Therefore, I feel lucky to  be able to spend time with them and help them in identifying what they want to do in life and then pushing them gently on that path.”

This multi-faceted social worker is out there making a real difference to lives! And his story is really inspiring for all.
