A 22-year-old girl from Northeast was allegedly raped by three men in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Monday. Three Nigerians, against whom the victim filed the case, have been arrested by the Delhi police.
The police on Tuesday morning received a complaint from the victim, who is a student of Punjab University, that she had come to the capital to stay with her brother for a few days. Her brother, who works in a private firm, lives in Vasant Kunj’s Kishangarh area with his two male friends. “As her brother did not think it wise to keep her with him at his place with his two male friends, he asked one of his female friends, also from the Northeast and staying in the vicinity, to allow his sister to stay with her and her female roommate for some time,” said a senior police officer, adding, “The victim started living with the two women and on Monday the women took her to Uttam Nagar on the pretext of shopping.”
The police added that there the women took the victim to the house where three Nigerians were already staying. “There,” the girl said in her complaint, “first of the three accused raped her and later the other two also attempted to rape her.”
The police said that her brother’s friends did not come for her rescue and it was only after she managed to escape from the clutches of the accused that she narrated the incident to her brother who took her to the Uttam Nagar police station to lodge the complaint.
Immediately, the cops said, a case of rape was filed and the two girls were detained. “At their instance, the three Nigerians were arrested from near their home where they were hiding,” said the senior police officer, adding, “The two girls, who are also suspected to be involved in the incident, are being questioned.”
The police added that it is trying to find out the details of stay of the three Nigerians in the capital. “We have contacted the relevant authorities to find out which visa the three Nigerian accused are staying in the city and whether they have crossed their tenure or not.”
