Gurgaon casino busted, 43 held in Delhi

The Haryana police on Sunday arrested 43 persons, including five women, after busting a gang which was allegedly running a casino illegally in the posh locality of DLF Phase-2 in Gurgaon and seized over `20 lakhs in cash.

During the raid, cash worth Rs 20,40,000, a casino table, a number of tokens used in playing games, bundles of playing cards, a number of branded wine bottles, a currency counting machine, a wireless set and a diary were recovered.

On interrogation, it came to light that a casino was being run by Naresh Malhotra, a resident of DLF-2, an official release said.

Mr Malhotra disclosed to the police that five girls hailing from Kathmandu in Nepal were hired on contractual basis, on a monthly salary of `20,000.

In addition, he had hired 15 men, including bouncers, to take care of the casino, cook and take care of patrons. He also had hired a manager to take handle the business.

He told the police that customers visiting the casino were served foreign liquor and meals.

The Gurgaon police said that CCTV cameras had been installed in the house to keep a strict vigil on the police or unknown persons.

“On interrogation, Mr Malhotra revealed that no one was allowed to enter the house unless he granted them permission,” the police added.

A case under Excise Act and Prevention of Gambling Act has been registered at the DLF-2 police station against the arrested persons. Besides Mr Malhotra and others, the five women who have been arrested include Moona, Sarita Pujari, Rajni, Samjhana and Sonam.

They had reception office on the first floor and the casino used to run from the basement of the building. They also used to serve foreign liquor there. While, a vacant plot adjacent to the building was used for cards, the police said.

The police has started further investigations.
