With respect to Javed Anand’s article When anger is the rage (October 28), I want to state that while Mr Anand is correct to a certain extent about the oppression of and anger amongst Muslims, the problem with a majority of Muslims is their tendency to resist the law. They want the Muslim Personal Law Board, polygamy, etc., to stay even to the extent of reversal of the SC rulings on the Shah Bano case. While we agree with the modern idea of secularism, it cannot be justified by sticking to Sharia-based law. Secularism is incomplete without democracy and vice-versa.
