The GST dilemma

The Congress is still mulling its response to the Goods and Services Tax. It is stuck on determining the maximum rate of taxation under GST. Eighteen per cent GST might be a revenue-neutral rate but given the growing expenditure on infrastructure, One Rank One Pension, 7th Pay Commission, etc, it is natural for the NDA government to keep its options open. The capping of GST should be in line with global standards. It is sad that the Congress is looking to stall GST for political one-upmanship.
