Terming the Supreme Court’s decisions for environmental protection as “overreach” contradicts its right to judicial review as ensconced in the Indian Constitution. Justice T.S. Thakur’s observation that successive governments had been dragging their feet on cleaning up the Ganga reestablishes the validity of judicial intervention in matters pertaining to policy, environment and social justice.
