Mumbai: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday announced that it will re-conduct two examinations i.e. the class XII economic paper and the class X mathematics paper. The decision was taken as the two papers were leaked during the examination in Delhi. However, the CBSE is yet to clarify whether the re-examinations will only be for Delhi or for the entire country. CBSE schools in Mumbai are clueless about the announcement as they haven’t been officially notified.

CBSE officials said that the dates of the re-examinations will be declared within a week. The CBSE official statement read, “The board has taken cognisance of certain happenings in the conduct of some examinations as have been reported. With a view to upholding the sanctity of board examinations and in the interest of fairness to students, the board has decided to re-conduct examinations in the said subjects.”

The primary reason for conducting re-exams is the reports of paper leak in the national capital. While the mathematics exam was conducted on Wednesday, the economics exam was held on Monday. According to reports, the question papers of these two subjects were leaked and circulated on social media sites an hour before commencement of the examination. However, the CBSE denied these allegations and registered a case with the Delhi police regarding the paper leak.

However, Avnita Bir, director-principal, R.N. Podar School, Santacruz, told The Asian Age that no circular had been issued to CBSE schools in Mumbai regarding the same. “We got to know about this re-examination from media reports as there has been no notification from CBSE to us (schools) till now.” It is a similar case with other CBSE schools in the city.

Meanwhile, students who appeared for their mathematics exam on Wednesday said that the paper was easy and that all questions pertained to their syllabus. Rohan Salunkhe, a student, said, “I prepared well for the exam and all the questions were from the syllabus and the paper went pretty easily too. However, if they ask us to give the exam once again, it will only place an additional burden on us.”
