Mumbai: It has taken a huge cry over potholes on city roads for the civic chief Ajoy Mehta to hit the roads and assess their condition. Facing flak over the pothole issue, the municipal commissioner on Friday visited several roads in the city and inspected pothole-filling works on them. However, corporators and civic activists have slammed the move saying its already too late.

Mr Mehta’s road visit comes on the backdrop of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) chief Sanjeev Jaiswal’s decision to inspect the pothole-filling works in Thane.

Mr Mehta, along with various department heads, inspected the repair works in areas such as Kurla, Chunabhatti, Chembur, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Tardeo, and Chinchpokali.

Senior Congress corporator and BMC opposition leader Ravi Raja said “Roads have been damaged due to heavy rains, since earlier this month. But it took 10-15 days for Mr Mehta to inspect the roads. He should have taken note of it before and acted promptly,” .

Civic activist James John from AGNI said, “Mr Mehta’s road visit now simply shows his failure to deliver his promise of zero tolerance for potholes.”
