Mumbai: The incarcerated former deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal was rushed to the state-run J.J Hospital from the Arthur Road prison late Saturday night after he complained of abdominal pain and breathlessness. Mr Bhujbal later underwent a couple of tests, including a CT scan and those related to blood and urine. Scans at the hospital revealed that he was suffering from pancreatitis and asthma.

JJ hospital dean Dr. S.D. Nanandkar said, “Several tests were performed which revealed that he had an inflamed pancreas.” He said that Mr Bhujbal suffers from heart ailments as well. Mr Bhujbal was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (C.C.U) to receive treatment for stomach sickness and kept under observation. In 2016, in November-December,  Mr Bhujbal was in Bombay hospital for 35 days to receive treatment for heart related ailments. According to sources, Mr Bhujbal has not been keeping well for a while. On Saturday, he was feeling breathlessness and so was rushed to J.J hospital. “Mr Bhujbal is not keeping well for around a month and we had moved an application before the court a few days ago, requesting the court to direct the jail superintendent to give copies of what medical treatment is being provided to him so that those could be shown to private doctors, who have been treating him for so many years,” said the NCP leader’s lawyer, Shalabh Saxena. He added, “This application is still pending before the court.”

Dr Nanandkar said, “ Mr Bhujbal came to hospital with severe abdominal pain and breathlessness and we directly recommended him for couples of scans. The scan reports revealed, an inflammed pancreas for which he is currently taking treatment.”
