Throwing light on shadows
A group of artists have named their exhibition Mirror Light as they want to provide the viewers with a new light to view the world.
Be the light that shines bright in a world where darkness seems to dominate at times. The Mirror Light Group Show, a painting exhibition, strives to be this light in society. A group of 15 artists have come together under the roof of the River Borne Art Gallery, Tripunithura, which has the perfect ambiance for the viewers to lose themselves in art.
The members of this group are artists, teachers and more importantly, friends, who share a bond that can never be broken. The 10-day exhibition tries to capture the inner thoughts of these artists in different levels.
“We zeroed in on the name Mirror Light as we wanted to provide the viewers with a new light with which they may view the world,” says R.K.Chandrababu, the coordinator of the show.
The painting exhibition touches upon various themes and perspectives of the artists, opens doors to the many issues that the world is facing at the moment, and reiterates that through art these issues can be well communicated and even healed to an extent. “There is a great need to educate people more about such humanistic concerns,” says Renjithlal, one of the artists.
The paintings try to bring to light the state of the ordinary people who are often hidden in the shadows only to be forgotten. The world is so accustomed to focusing on certain individuals that it’s becoming rather normal. And so, the works of these artists try to divert our attention to the fact that each and every person is important and should be given equal importance.
A few paintings and sculptures are based on the theme of Kerala rising back after enduring the devastating effects of the flood.
Other themes are certain images that don’t fade away from our minds — like man’s constant struggle with nature, the rising cruelties towards children and the mushrooming of concrete buildings that devour the villages.
The artists are Cyril Dominic, M.P. Manoj, Gopikrishnan, Thomas Kurisingal, Manoj Brahmamangalam, Manoj Narayanan, Prasobh Raj, Pramod Gopalakrishnan, Renjithlal, Radhamohan, O.T. Remanan, C.S. Sandeep, Sujith Surendran, Sunny Paul and R.K. Chandrababu.
Every person who has an eye for good art should give this exhibition a go to dive into the world of such diverse and powerful themes.
The exhibition will stay open till December 22, from 11 am to 9 pm.
