New Delhi: Girls outshone boys in the class 12 CBSE examination, the results of which where declared Thursday, way ahead of schedule. Joint toppers Hansika Shukla from Ghaziabad and Karishma Arora from Muzaffarnagar scored 499 out of 500 marks.

The CBSE results were announced within 28 days of the last date of the examination. The examination began on February 16, earlier than previous years. The results, which is usually announced by the third week of May, was also announced earlier than scheduled.

With the girls outshining boys in the examination, Thiruvananthapuram region recorded the highest pass percentage. “Girls have a pass percentage of 88.70 which is 9 percentage points more than that of boys’ 79.40 per cent. Transgenders have a pass percentage of 83.3 per cent,” a senior board officials said.

CBSE topper Hansika Shukla has only one regret — scoring 99 in English. Hansika, who has scored 100 each in history, political science, psychology and Hindustani vocals, says she followed a no social media policy ahead of examinations.

Sharing similar marks with her is Muzaffarnagar’s Karishma Arora, who chose dance over music to relax during her free time.

Karishma said: “I am not much of a sports person. I like to dance when I am free and want to relax.”

Coincidentally, both the toppers want to pursue psychology honours for their undergraduate studies.

The CBSE announced the results way ahead of schedule following a Delhi high court order to complete the process before the undergraduate admissions begin.
