The reason why the president uncharacteristically stayed mum could be traced to a interview he gave to a news channel.

New York: Host Jimmy Kimmel's poking fun at U.S. President Donald Trump and tweeting him, during the 89th Academy Awards is, by now, a known fact for each and every one.

But, it was quite surprising that Trump, who leaves no stone unturned to give it back to his haters, did not respond to the Oscars host.

Here's a possible explanation to why Trump did not engage himself in a Twitter feud with Kimmel.

During an interview with Fox & Friends, hosted by Fox News Channel, the U.S. President said that the Oscars host "pulled out the race card" because "they're losing badly."

"Look, it just seems like the other side, whenever they're losing badly, they always pull out the race card. I've watched it for years. I watched it against Ronald Reagan, I've watched it against so many other people. And they always like pulling out the race card. In fact, I did much better than many other Republicans in the last election. I did much better with Hispanics, I did much better with African Americans," the Deadline quoted him saying to Fox & Friends.

This reply came as a reply to Kimmel's opening monologue, where he said, "Maybe this is not a popular thing to say, but I want to say thank you to Donald Trump, I mean, remember last year when it seemed like the Oscars were racist? It's gone. Thanks to him!"
