Bhartiya Skill Development University has organised a workshop in association with EOS on ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing and Data Preparation for Metal Additive Manufacturing’. The workshop is being held over a span of two days, wherein it began today on 6th June and will conclude on 7th June. Various researchers, professionals and policy makers from educational Institutes, private and government sector, civil society joined the workshop. Apart from partaking in various activities, they discussed about the transformation and evolution of prototyping in manufacturing over the years.

The workshop started with an inaugural address by Dr (Brig.) Surjit Singh Pabla, Vice Chancellor, BSDU, followed by technical sessions for participants.

BSDU has created its own Fabrication Laboratory ‘FabLab’ and has organised the workshop to nurture creativity and innovation in youth. Today’s workshop included sessions on laser sintering process, components, machine & accessories, Data Preparation demo using Magics, Supports, slicing, EOSPRINT, EOSTATE,Part screening methodology introduction, Discussion of Pain Point & AM Potential Value, andScreening & evaluation of parts. Executives from prominent companies like Honda Motors, Phillips and Polycabparticipated in the workshop. During different sessions they learned about the processes involved in 3D printing and rapid prototyping. During the two day workshop, participants will also be explained how to make machine parts by 3D printing.

Dr Pabla said at the commencement of the workshop, “At this workshop organised with eos, we will be discussing about prototyping, its transformation and advancement over the years, such as rapid prototyping. The participants will also learn how prototyping and 3D printing will help in various fields such as manufacturing, medicine, along with the problems faced in the procedure will also be discussed. This workshop will help not only the university, but also the participants in upgrading and enhance their skills. The workshop will identify the emerging skill solution, which is Additive Manufacturing. We are of the belief that Additive Manufacturing is the future and are hence promoting it to companies in the industry.”

Mohanjit Singh Walia, Principal (Automotive Skills), BSDU, said, “This workshop will help us not only learn more about 3D printing and rapid prototyping, but will also help us in building up new courses. Through the new courses we will be able to teach students about additive manufacturing like 3D printing and rapid prototyping. As with our other courses, students will get practical training in these courses too wherein they will learn how to create parts and products using 3D printing and prototyping.”

Bhartiya Skill Development University is a skill development university which is working towards bringing excellence to the skill development industry in India by providing an apt environment by providing proper training, quality infrastructure, and well-designed curriculum to students and making them skilled by training them to be ready to compete at international levels. Students get trainings under experts and gain experience of working properly with machinery. The university provides practical training to students and follows the 1 students= 1 machine motto to give each individual better training. BSDU works towards providing students training for the manufacturing industry and encourages them to build a career in manufacturing.

EOS is a global technology leader for 3D printing of metals and polymers and is an expert in holistic solutions in additive manufacturing. The company is based in Munich, Germany and has 30 years of experience in Additive Manufacturing. EOS provides services in part design and data generation for part building and post-processing.

Very recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced formation of a Cabinet Committee for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which he will himself look after. As part of Modi’s Skill India and Make in India campaigns, the government will be putting more focus on skill development and manufacturing in India.
