Washington: As he is expected to announce his candidature for the 2020 Presidential election on Thursday, a poll by Politico has put former US Vice President Joe Biden ahead of President Donald Trump in the race to the White House.

The poll shows that Biden is leading Trump by eight points. The poll also indicates that Biden is the leading Democrat for the top job. Biden has 30 per cent support among Democratic primary voters followed by Bernie Sanders, whose support base stood at 24 per cent.

Seventy six-year-old Biden remains popular among women, despite allegations against him for inappropriate behaviour, as he leads Trump by 17 points among women voters.

The poll suggested that while 39 per cent of the registered voters are happy with Trump’s performance, 48 per cent would go for Biden.

The poll of 1,992 voters was conducted online between April 19 and 21 and had an error margin of two per cent.
