Chhagan Bhujbal shifted to KEM Hospital on court’s orders
Sources stated that Bhujbal has been admitted to ward number 43 of the gastro surgery department under Dr Shobna J. Bhatia.
Mumbai: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is suffering from a pancreatic ailment, was shifted to the civic-run KEM Hospital for treatment from the state-run JJ Hospital.
The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Monday had directed the superintendent of Arthur Road Prison to take Bhujbal, who was arrested for his alleged role in the Maharashtra Sadan scam case, to shift him to the super speciality department of KEM Hospital.
The court had sought a report from JJ Hospital following which the dean of JJ Hospital had constituted a panel of experts to draft the report. The report states that on the basis of clinical examination and blood investigations, acute pancreatitis was ruled out.
Bhujbal was admitted to the state-run JJ Hospital on March 3. A CT scan and sonography revealed that he was suffering from abdominal ailments. He also suffers from asthma and respiratory problems, among other health issues. A senior administrative officer at the hospital said Bhujbal was stable while being discharged.
The dean of JJ Hospital, S. Nandankar, said, “The court had asked for a report from our hospital. We had constituted a panel of experts to draft the report.”
The report stated that on the basis of clinical examination and blood investigations acute pancreatitis was ruled out. “On the other hand, the patient needs further assessment and management by Hepatopancreatobilary (HPB) and Gastroenterology (GI) department and that the two departments are super specialty department, which is not available at the JJ Hospital,” the report reads. The report also stated that the facility is available at KEM Hospital.
Talking to The Asian Age, KEM Hospital Dean Dr Avinash Supe, said, “Mr Bhujbal has been admitted to KEM Hospital as per the court order He is stable. He is being evaluated and tested by a board of experts.”
