Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come up with a project for school children called “Museum on Wheels” where a museum housed inside a bus will visit municipal schools, one school per day, to give lessons in subjects such as history, geography and science through pictures and toys. The project will start on Wednesday with the Municipal Corporation School of Colaba being the first to receive these lessons.

Nominated corporator from Shiv Sena, Avkash Jadhav, first mooted the idea in the civic body a year ago but it was only recently that the concept got a nod from municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta. The museum will carry theme-based artefacts depicting periods in history or lessons from science. Three volunteers on board will explain concepts to school children, in a language that they can understand.

Every three months, the theme of the museum will change. Sometime ago, the theme was Harappa depicted through pictures.
